        Levski Municipality

Levski Municipality is located in Central North Bulgaria and is a part of a region with administrative center Pleven. The town of Levski is a municipal center of 10 villages and 2 settlements.

The existence of the town of Levski dates back to Ottoman rule as a small village named Karaagach (Black elm). Since 1897 the village is named after the Apostle of Freedom - Levski. In 1945, it was declared a city.

There are remnants of prehistoric and ancient settlements in the municipality. Near the villages of Malchika, Izgrev and Stezherovo are found ruins of ancient necropolises and tombstones with ancient inscriptions. On the altar of the mound necropolis near the village of Malchika is carved one of the oldest Latin inscriptions (VI century BC). The Ancient necropolis, the graves in the village of Izgrev and the stone in the Sveta Troitsa locality northwest of the village of Stezherovo reveal findings of national significance.

An architectural and historical landmark in the municipality of Levski is the Roman bridge near the village of Bulgarene.

The territory of the municipality is an oasis of unspoilt beautiful nature. Osam River crosses the entire municipal land. Three protected areas attract curiosity: Taraklaka Forest Park near the village of Gradishte - an ancient oak forest; "Gerena", a large wetland of 8,000 decares near the villages of Obnova and Bulgarene; the wooded area of Shavarna located south of the town of Levski.
