Mizia Municipality
Mizia Municipality is located in Northwest Bulgaria and is one of the constituent municipalities of Vratsa District. There are 6 settlements.
Ancient roots and rich history have the settlements of Miziya municipality. The earliest traces of the advent of people date back to 5000 years. Thracian tribes inhabiting these lands have left rich cultural heritage. Here in 1925 was discovered the famous Bukyovsko silver treasure (IV century BC).
The old name of Mizia – Bukyovtsi is first metioned in a Turkish register from 1848. The village was built around 2 Turkish farms in the XVIII century.
In the village of Sofronievo today can be seen the medieval one-nave church "St. Nikola". Its construction started in the time of the Kingdom of Turnovo and continued until the nineteenth century. Around the church there is a well-preserved necropolis of crosses (about 450 monuments), the inscriptions of which date back to the 14th-19th centuries. The church is declared a cultural monument of national importance.
The hulking bridge in the village of Lipnitsa was built during the Roman Empire, part of the road connecting Constantinople with the Danube River. The bridge is an element of the memorial complex "Botev Track".
