        Municipality Lyaskovets

The municipality of Lyaskovets is located in the central part of Veliko Tarnovo district. It consists of six settlements.

The municipal center of Lyaskovets is located at the foot of the rock on which is built the monastery "St. Peter and Paul" - a symbol of the city. The name of the city comes from the hazelbush or hazel tree. Lyaskovets was declared a town in 1880.
The processes of formation of the settlement in the region started from the stone-copper age - IV millennium BC The development of the settlement was more rapid in the early decades of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom thanks to the construction of the monastery St. St. Peter and Paul. Here was established the first theological school in Bulgaria.
Today's position of the town dates back to the 17th century. Lyaskovets was formed as a settlement consisting of five neighbourhoods bearing the names of the respective churches: St. Atanas, St. Vasil, St. Georgi, St. Dimitar and St. Nicholas. The oldest settlement was located in the Svetitsata area (named after a small church - "St. Trinity"). The hamlets are formed at different times, mainly by different migrants, sticking together.
The Lyaskovets municipality is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria, which has preserved the livelihood of the vegetable gardeners that worked abroad.
An interesting fact is that Mount Lyaskovetz on Livingston Island in Antarctica is named in homer of the town.
