Since the Liberation of Bulgaria from Turkish occupation, Zlataritsa exists as a separate administrative unit. The name of the city is related to the golden sand from the river.
There are two historic museums of local significance built in the town of Zlataritsa - one of which is the former modern classical school built in 1860. The church - St. Nikolay's temple in Zlataritsa is declared an architectural monument of culture. Unique with its frescoes, icons and architectural style.
Each year in September Zlataritsa municipality organizes "Vegetable Soup Day". The feast is a tribute to the traditions of gardeners working abroad for their living. The custom existed in Zlataritsa many years ago when sending and welcoming gardeners.
