Techirghiol, a unique city in the world, benefits from the existence of special natural conditions. Climate, sapropelic mud and salt water make this famous spa resort known since 1899 a famous destination with a healing and fascinating atmosphere.
Lake Techirghiol, the largest saline lake in Romania, with a length of 7,500 meters, a depth of 9 meters and a salinity of over 90 g / l, is known for the quality of salted water (mineralized) and sapropelic sludge, used to treat various diseases. The invertebrate fauna inhabiting Techirghiol Lake is dominated by the Artemia salin crustacee, which together with Cladophora alga crystalline provides the raw material for the production of sapropelic sludge with active mineral components that give it a special therapeutic value.
The Techirghiol sanatorium, the place where half a million Romanians have healed, is specialized in treating over 40 diseases. Over time, they have stepped down the threshold of simple people, actors, performance athletes, and other outstanding personalities. The resort has five treatment bases, one spa for adults and one for children with permanent motor disabilities, a sanatorium for children with rheumatic diseases and rickets, and an outdoor treatment base for aeroheliotherapy, cold mud packs taken from the lake, followed by baths in the lake. The treatment consists of warm baths in a bathtub or saltwater pool pumped from the lake, warm sapropelic mud packs, inhalations, electrotherapy and hydrotherapy.
The Monastery of St. Mary was built around 1750 by the elders of the village of Maioresti - Mures, from ancient goruni. The columns and arches built in Brancoven style are impressive. The edifice is set on a Techirghiol stone base, and the contrast between the stone pedestal, the solid stone and the fragile wooden church is pleasing. The St. Pantelimon statue in bronze, made by Ion Jalea, is a symbol of miraculous healing (St. Pantelimon was a renowned physician for his grace to treat illnesses considered to be no cure). Also, the monastery is a famous pilgrimage place for Romanian Orthodox Christians who have come to seek the relief of various pains, bodily or spiritual.
Located 15 km from Constanta, the largest Black Sea town, and only 3 km from the Black Sea coast, the resort is located in a Dobrogean steppe region. We therefore have to deal with a temperate, continental, steppe climate with marine influences, characterized by an average annual temperature of about 11 degrees Celsius, an air humidity of about 80%, winds present almost permanently at a speed of 4 -5 m / s (especially between 11-17 hrs), the average aerionation of 900 positive and negative / cubic cubes with a slight positive predominance. The average annual temperature is 11.2 ° C and rainfall is less than 400 mm per year. Marine breeze is felt here much less than on the sea shore, but the lake breeze feels great.
