The southern border of the municipality runs along the ridge of Mount Koznitsa with the highest peak Todorini kukli. A part of the Vratsa Balkan Nature Park falls within the boundaries of the municipality. Varshets is a resort famous for its warm mineral water and mild mountain climate.
The village has grown around mineral springs and its history is related to balneotherapy. The Thracian boy - god Telesphorus, whose unique bronze sculpture from II century BC is found in these places, today is a symbol of the city. The history of Varshets began in the antiquity under the name of Medeka (Medicus-healing) in order to be declared a national resort in 1950 and a town in 1964. The oldest preserved written document on the existence of Varshets dates back to VI century in Byzantine chronicles. In the Kaleto locality, where the ruins of the ancient fortress still exist, medical and pharmaceutical tools were found.
Remarkable in architectural style are the Old Bath (1910) and New Bath (1930), built in the style of the late European baroque. The old bath casino (1924) is the first in Bulgaria.
